This textbook is the Our Lives: An Ethnic Studies Primer that has been translated into the Spanish language.

The two faculty members who translated this textbook worked together closely, going through the text page by page. While they found some AI translation tools helpful for certain sections, they discovered that many aspects of the text did not translate well from English to Spanish and required a human touch. Their different backgrounds in the Spanish language were especially valuable, as they could discuss and refine translations until they arrived at the best possible version for our students. It was also valuable to be able to ask the authors if a particular translation worked well for what they were trying to convey in the English version of the text. Translating textbooks from one language to another is definitely more complex than it seems and it’s helpful when a team approach is considered.
