3.0 Plant Tissues & Meristems

Plants create many different types of cells, which have various functions. Most new cells are produced in specialised regions of tissue, called meristems.

Primary growth occurs in the apical meristems of the shoots and roots. The cells of the apical meristem divide and expand and differentiate into all the various cell types of the plant.
